In the morning we drove the scenic route to Aysgarth. We parked in the National Parks car park, and walked along the footpaths to look at the upper, middle and lower falls. At the lower falls we watched dippers for a while. An adult was feeding a young dipper on the opposite [...]

We did a good 9.5 mile leg-stretcher today. We found the walk on daleswalker.com.
After a fine cooked breakfast, we drove a short distance down the road to the village of Reeth, and parked on the village green. We walked down the road across a bridge and then took a footpath and started climbing. It [...]

We caught the 10:30am CalMac ferry from Craignure to Oban. Just outside Oban we stopped at Kilchurn Castle – when we eventually found it. We could see it from the road, and pulled into a likely looking turning, where two German women asked us if we knew how to get to the castle. [...]

We went to Loch Buie and walked along to Moy Castle, which was surrounded in scaffolding, and then past the beach and up to a disused chapel. It was tiny, and had no windows, the only light coming in through the door and through coloured insets in the roof. According to a plaque [...]

We picked a circular 6.5mile route from our Isle of Mull walks booklet. The booklet graded the walk ‘A’, or strenuous, which, it said, meant we should have taken a compass, whistle and torch along with a full set of waterproofs and a supply of food and drink. We took waterproofs, since the forecast was [...]

In the morning J went into Tobermory to look in the gift shops and R stayed in and read a book.
Then we went to the Sgriob-ruadh dairy farm, where Isle of Mull cheese is made. We had a look at the cheese-making facilities, and went into the shop, where we tasted some 1-year-old and 3-year-old [...]

In the morning we went into Tobermory to buy provisions: some animal, some vegetable, some liquid. Then we embarked on a tour of Mull recommended in a wildlife guide booklet we’d bought.
We drove south to Salen, then west along the southern shore of Loch na Keal. We stopped frequently, looking out for otters. [...]

We left for Ulva Ferry at 10:30, giving ourselves over an hour to get there in case we got stuck on a single track road behind a farmer and a flock of sheep.

In the morning we drove down to the eastern end of Loch na Keal to look for otters. When we got there we phoned to book a place on the 10am trip to the sea eagle hide. We spent 20 minutes not seeing any otters, then drove back up to the hide. We met RSPB [...]

We drove to Oban first thing. We spent a couple of hours looking round the town, and climbed up to McCaig’s Tower, a roman-style arched circular construction on top of a hill looking down onto the town. Then crab claws and scallops for lunch at Ee-usk on the quay. We were on the 2 o’clock [...]
